PlayStation Gold PS4

THE DEDICATED WIRELESS PS4 HEADSET

Ratings: 3.9 | Type: Bluetooth+Wired

Amazon's Choice

Sony's black is the new gold. The closed back headset comes with the fantastic control scheme and excellent comfort level. You can't say that it's the best available in the market, but it's a good PS4 headset. In its price range it's one of the best to consider.

You don't have to be an audiophile to get it going, plug in the USB dongle on the console, and you're good to go.

Design

With sleek, streamlined and comfortable design the headset can be personalized. The headband connecting both ear-cups is wrapped in black faux ear cushions which is also used for ear-cups padding with no exposed metal in design. The L & R marks on headband indicate the ear-cup meanwhile the left side contains all of the connections and controls. The control scheme offers power switch, toggle between standard and bass boost bodes, micro USB port, volume control, 3.5mm jack, and a button to activate virtual sound.

In the package, you will get Gold Wireless Stereo Headset, USB Cable (Type-A to Micro-B), Wireless Adapter and 3.5mm Audio Cable along with a manual. It also has a warranty which applies to the USA only and comes with certain limitations. The cups are movable and make it easily adjustable for different head sizes. On the upside, the USB adapter enables wireless audio support for Mac & PC.

Performance

The sound is detailed with loud booms and soft whispers which lets you immerse entirely in the game. The lows and mids are pretty good, and Sony's virtual 7.1 surround sound adds an extra layer of immersion. The bass is consistent and stable with no distortion but lacks deep bass.

The breath-ability is average. The voice reproduction is pretty good with no complications concerning microphone. As long as you are using the headphones with PS4, you are good, but with PC you might face issues regarding audio which isn't the case with Sony. You can also experience it with other brands, but it can be fixed as usually its the case of GameScannerService.exe.

This is a hassle-free wireless gaming headset with fantastic features.

ActiveΒ Features

Sony has claimed that the battery life could last for up to 8 hours but in real-world use, it can fall under or exceed that estimate, but according to the usage it could go for up to 7 hours with a single charge. It can be charged while you are using it as well as you can use wired mode if the battery dies so you shouldn't be worried much about battery life. It might lag concerning comfort level, but overall it's a good one to go for.

Turtle Beach Stealth 600 PS4

BIG SOUND ON A BUDGET

Ratings: 4.0 | Type: Bluetooth

Amazon's Choice

The Turtle Beach Stealth has an awkward design, but the sound is great. The quality is impressive to the ears. After Sony's Gold the Turtle Beach produced a solid and in range headset for PS4, it has unique perks including "Superhuman Hearing" mode and amplification. It has low latency which makes it perfect for gaming and videos.

Design

It has a bulky and delicate design which seems a bit bumpy on the head and isn't meant for outdoor use as its specially designed for PS4. The ear-cups are spacious and well padded. The padding on the headband is cool. The all-plastic design and fabric used for padding isn't that premium.

The control scheme is easy to use and includes volume control, power switch and fold-up-to-mute feature. The breath-ability of the headset is above average due to the porous fabric which makes it comfortable for long sessions.

It can't be folded into a compact size, and due to bulkiness, it's not portable. It comes in two colors black & white with a contrast. It is also highly adjustable and should fit comfortably for most heads. In the box along with Turtle Beach Stealth 600, you will get USB transmitter dongle, USB charging cable, and manuals.

Performance

The design might seem bit awkward and uncomfortable, but in terms of sound quality, the Stealth 600 is one of the best PS4 wireless headsets. The closed-back headset is a perfect sounding pair.

The base is deep, punchy and tight with low thumps and rumbles. Mids are clear and stable meanwhile the treble is sweet and gentle. It ensures clear reproduction of lead instruments and vocals without overpowering treble and bass ranges. The range's response is flat, and the bass is well-balanced.

The imaging is great, and L/R drivers ensure proper placement of objects. Frequency response consistency and harmonic distortion are above average.

On the downside, the isolation and sound leakage isn't very good which makes it suitable only for inside use. The soundstage is mediocre with a natural feel. Stealth's microphone is above average and performs pretty good in quiet environments. It performs well in terms of noise handling and recording.

ActiveΒ Features

The Stealth 600 comes with good battery life and average software/app support. The battery could last for up to 16 hours, and it requires about 2 hours to charge fully. It comes with an auto-off timer as a battery saving feature. Unfortunately life Sony's Gold you can't use wired mode in Stealth 600, but it has double the battery life.

HyperX Cloud II PS4

THE TOTAL PACKAGE FOR PROS

Ratings: 4.2 | Type: Wired

Amazon's Choice

The Kingston launched its HyperX Cloud II aiming to offer everything an average game would look for. It grabbed the market due to its price range and build quality and has been Kingston's one of the best selling headset. In terms of sound it and comfort it was among the top but lacks in customization and has a weak low end. Unlike Stealth 600 the casual design of HyperX Cloud II makes it suitable for outdoor as well.

And for a slightly upmarket option (still under $100 at the time of writing), you can also try the HyperX Cloud Alpha S.

Design

In terms of design, HyperX Cloud II is just like a gaming headset should be. It's comfortable, decent and has a detachable mic for outdoor use.

The control scheme is excellent for gaming sessions. The dedicated inline remote cable with a USB connection allows you to control mic level and volume along with Dolby 7.1 surround sound button. The buttons are responsive and easy to use.

But your ear might get a bit warm during long sessions due to its design as breath-ability is mediocre. It also might feel bulky for some, but the padding on ear-cups and headband is comfortable as it doesn't exert too much pressure on ears. It contains logo on both shiny ear-cups.

The headphones are a bit compact compared to others, but you can't say its amazing regarding portability. In the box along with HyperX Cloud II, you will get USB adapter, Airline adapter, Extra Over-Ear pads, Carrying pouch and a manual.

Performance

The closed-back over-ear headset has fantastic sound quality.

The base is deep, punchy and thick. Mids are stable and well-balanced meanwhile treble is sweet, but the performance lacks a bit in detail and could be sharp at some points. The frequency response consistency is mediocre meanwhile imaging is excellent. Total harmonic distortion and soundstage are average.

Due to its design, the sound leakage is minimum, but it doesn't provide much isolation against background noise as there is no ANC (Active Noise Cancelling) feature. For gaming its very easy to determine where the gunfire is coming from and regarding incoming danger due to visible effects. Regarding multimedia, the performance is similar, and you will enjoy using it but might not like the bulkiness for that use. The microphone is fantastic and recording quality, as well as noise handling, is fantastic.

Specifications

Compatibility: PS4, Xbox One, PC, mobile
Features: 7.1 surround sound | Detatchable Microphone
Connection: 3.5mm
Frequency Response: 15Hz – 25kHz
Weight: 0.7 lbs
Speaker: 53mm Neodymium
